Competition for a private building in Woluwe Sint-Lambrechts, Brussels.

The client asked for a very flexible design for a familiar house that could easily be turned into a two-apartments block whenever they would decide to sell or sub-rent the entire volume or a part of it. Another main task was to guarantee enough space for an exhibition area for the owner's art collection despite the strict building rules of the city of Brussels and the tight dimensions of the plot of land. In our design proposal, thanks to a split level combination and a central core for the connection between the spaces, we managed to create a total surface of 413 m² divided into three main groups: public spaces, semi-private spaces and extra private spaces.

The lower part of the house is dedicated to the main 'public' functions, such as dining or receiving guests, while the upper floors are becoming increasingly private with a private studio and sitting room on the top floor. This last part of the house can be easily detached from the main residence thanks to a design that foresee the emplacement of a new set of stairs to join directly the apartment without passing through the main entrance.
